Algeria’s government has accused France of destabilising the North African Country and as well summoned the French envoy to Algiers, Stephanie Romatet.Local media disclosed over the weekend, citing diplomatic sources.
Algeria’s State owned daily El Moudjahid on Saturday reported that the Algerian Foreign Ministry expressed the government’s « firm disapproval » of the « numerous French provocations and hostile acts toward Algeria ».
This surfaces following the summoning of Paris’ ambassador to Algiers, Stephanie Romatet.
The media outlet reported citing diplomatic sources that Algeria as well alleged efforts by France’s spy agency to destabilise the country.
Accoridng to Le Soir d’Algerie newspaper on Sunday, French diplomats and agents had organised a series of meetings with people showing a « declared and permanent hostility toward Algerian institutions. »
It’s worth noting that the latest tensions between the both parties surfaces as French-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal is reportedly detained in Algeria for « attacking territorial integrity. »
Algeria’s Defence Ministry in August made public that it had arrested 21 people for attempting to smuggle weapons into the country aboard a commercial ferry from France.
However, El Moudjahid in a report on Saturday claimed that France « actively protects and supports » the Movement for the self-employed Determination of Kabylie(MAK)an Algerian terrorist organisation.
In October, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune canceled a long awaited official visit to France and accused Paris of colonial-era “genocide.”
Relations between Algeria and France deteriorated in recent months following French President Emmanuel Macron’s stance in endorsing a controversial Moroccan autonomy plan of Western Sahara.
