The World Health Organisation’s Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Sunday November 17, louded Rwanda’s efforts in eradicating cervical cancer before 2030.
He added that Kigali is meeting the goals set by the WHO.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Director General of the World Health Organisation praised on November 17, Rwanda’s commitment in combating cervical cancer before 2030.
On Sunday still, Rwanda Biomedical Centre(RBC) made public that the country is dedicated in achieving the 90-70-90 targets for cervical cancer eradication by 2027, three years ahead of the WHO’s global goal.
Dr. Tedros noted that Rwanda’s progress demonstrates that WHO goals are achievable when priority is placed on women and girls’ health.
It’s worth noting that Sunday marked the Day of action for cervical cancer elimination.
The WHO chief disclosed that since the introduction Of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV)vaccince in 2011, Rwanda has reached vaccince coverage of 90 percent, noting that the Gicumbi and Karongi regions are meeting the goals.
He further urged » We cannot rely in vaccines alone. To save lives now, we must match the increase in vaccination with increase in screening and treatment. »
« These targets are not just aspirational; they are achievable, even in low middle-income countries. » He stated.
Since the WHO issued the global call in 2018, over 60 countries introduced the HPV vaccine into their immunisation programmes, bringing the total to 144 countries.
