US Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello on December 6 began a diplomatic travel to Doha, Nairobi, London, and Nouakchott.
The strategic trip is set to scale up humanitarian aid in Sudan and coordinate efforts to end the ongoing conflict.
On Friday December 6, U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello kick-started a diplomatic trip to Qatar, Kenya, the United Kingdom, and Mauritania in a move to scale up humanitarian aid to the people of Sudan and as well coordinate efforts to end the crisis in Sudan.
Perriello is set to meet with key government officials and representatives of the African Union, the Arab League, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, and Sudanese civil.
According to US Department of State, during engagements, the special envoy will stress the pivotal need for the warring parties to allow additional UN humanitarian hubs to ease the distribution of assistance throughout Sudan;enable humanitarian corridors that ensure the safe, unhindered movement of civilians and humanitarian assistance; improve protections for civilians, including women and girls subjected to gender-based violence; and support a political transition to civilian governance.
The conflict primarily a power struggle between the leaders of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has led to the dead of almost 15,000 people and displacement of 8.2 million people according to statistics from Global Conflict Tracker.
