In a bid to amplify the fight against terrorism in the Sahel, Egypt says it is committed to helping the nations in their counterterrorism efforts.
The nation’s foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty was speaking on Wednesday during a joint press conference with his Nigerien counterpart.
According to Abdelatty, Egypt will cooperate militarily and otherwise.
Amid the spiralling security crisis in the Sahel region, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aty on Wednesday affirmed that Egypt is determined to support the efforts of the nations in the region.
He was speaking during a joint press conference with his Nigerien counterpart Bakary Yaou Sangaré in Cairo.
Minister Abdel Aty expressed support to Niger’s counterterrorism efforts, and showed Egypt’s readiness to provide training and equipment to Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Gabon to repel terrorist groups.
This explains why the high level talks included the capacity-building of security personnel in the field of combating terrorism. In that framework, Abdel Aty underscored the importance of fighting terrorism in Sahel by accomplishing development as part of efforts since assuming the presidency of the African Peace and security council on October 1, 2024.
The other cooperation fields discussed are agriculture, given that Egypt already has a large farm in the country, and healthcare by operating medical caravans and drugs through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD).
The talks covered preparations for a visit by Nigerien president to Cairo soon and measures taken to deal with the disastrous impact of the floods that hit the country last month causing the death of 339 and displacement of 1.1 million.
