Cameroon’s government has officially denied speculations that the nation’s President, Paul Biya is unwell. This revelation is contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Minister of communication and Government Spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi.
Following days of speculations that circulated on social media, Cameroon’s president Paul Biya, is in good health, according to the country’s Minister of Communication and government Spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi in a statement on Tuesday
Since the China -Africa summit (FOCAC) in early September, President Biya has not been seen in public and his failure to appear as scheduled at a summit in France last weekend stoked speculation that the nonagenarian was unwell.
The statement read « rumours of all kinds have been circulating through the conventional media and social networks about the president’s condition, » adding that the Government unequivocally states that these rumours are « pure fantasy … and hereby issues a formal denial. »
Opposition parties and civil society groups have been calling for an update on the status of Biya’s health and his exact whereabouts.
Simultaneously, his recent absence from the meeting of leaders from French-speaking countries in Paris was much remarked on at the two-day event.
Answering the worries, minister Sadi said that after Beijing, Biya paid a private visit to Europe, quoting »head of state is in good health and will be returning to Cameroon in the coming days. »
