French troops have handed over the Faya military base to the Chadian Armed forces and it continues its withdrawal of the country. It was done on Thursday according to a statement.
Towards a definite military divorce, the French armed forces officially handed over the first military base to the Chadian army on Thursday, the Chadian Ministry of the Armed Forces, Veterans and Victims of War confirmed in a statement.
The statement read: « today, December 26, 2024, the General Staff of the Armed Forces informs […] that, following the departure of fighter jets to France and the withdrawal of the first French combat troops from Chad on December 20, French troops handed over the Faya base to the Chad National Army. »
In the early hours of Thursday, a convoy of 54 vehicles left for the capital, N’Djamena, while a cargo plane took off from N’Djamena for France with 80 tonnes of supplies, the ministry noted.
The statement added that Chad and France will continue to work closely together to ensure a rapid and respectful withdrawal of the French forces while respecting the sovereignty of each country.
However the Chadian ministry of the Armed Forces noted that the French personnel and equipment deployed at the base will return to France in the coming days.
