According to Egypt’s former envoy to Brazil, the G20 summit is a vital platform for Egypt to exchange views with diverse influential economies and powers. He was speaking on Monday during an interview highlighting the strategic position of the nation in the face of global changes.
Former Egyptian Ambassador to Brazil, Ambassador Ahmed Darwish, has stated that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s participation in the G20 summit meetings, held Monday and Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, signifies an “important opportunity for Egypt to exchange prospects with the host country and the world’s top emerging economies.”
Ambassador Darwish added that this summit is one of the most important G20 summits in light of the unprecedented global political tensions that the world is currently witnessing, most notably the systematic genocide and ethnic cleansing by the Israeli occupation army against the Palestinian people, as well as the ongoing conflict in Sudan, in addition to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
He explains with these numerous wars, it necessitates that Egypt discusses these crises in all international fora and with all influential parties to stop the wars. Amb. Darwish added that the continued Ukraine war has also had serious repercussions on global economies without exception, negatively affecting energy and food supplies, especially with the halt in grain supplies.
Also, Egypt and Brazil have agreed on promoting dialogue and understanding through cementing diplomatic relations and holding bilateral meetings, and exchanging visits by high-level officials from both countries.
That came in the Joint Declaration, which was signed by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Sunday.
Egypt – G20 trade exchange reached $61 billion during the first nine months of 2024 from $55.6 billion in the same period in 2023, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
