Upon identifying areas of cooperation of mutual interests, Egyptian and Russian public prosecutors went ahead to sign a memorandum of understanding. The agreement signed on Sunday will touch areas like terrorism, extremism, money laundering, trafficking, and cybercrimes, among others.
In a bid to further deepen cooperation between both countries, Egyptian Public Prosecutor Counselor Mohamed Shawqi has signed a MoU with his Russian counterpart Igor Krasnov.
The cooperation signed on Sunday in Moscow will focus on crimes of terrorism, extremism, money laundering, human trafficking, illegal migration, organ trafficking, environmental crimes, and cybercrimes, especially related to cryptocurrencies.
Another MoU between both leaders is for each country to deliver training to prosecutors from the other country in 2026. In the same vein, Counselor Shawqi directed prosecutors who would join the training programme to begin learning the Russian language at the Russian cultural center in Cairo, ahead of the cooperation.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Egyptian public prosecutor will also attend the 6th Meeting of Heads of BRICS Prosecution Services held in St. Petersburg to run from June 18-19, Egypt’s first participation since it joined the bloc at the beginning of 2024.
