Ahead of this year’s historic election in Ghana billed for December 7, the nation has started a special voting exercise nationwide partitioned for December 2 and December 5.
This will permit persons like media professionals, security, election workers and others to vote before main elections.
A special voting exercise debuted on Monday nationwide in 328 designated voting centers excluding the Western and Eastern regions where it has been postponed to Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Last week, Dr. Bossman Asare, deputy commissioner in Charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC) had stated the coubtry will carry out this exercise which will allow persons, including security services, media personnel, and EC officials, who will be performing special duties on Election Day to vote earlier than the main Election Day.
The electoral commission had stressed that each center will not have more than 750 eligible voters to ensure the exercise is conducted smoothly.
A total of 131,478 voters representing 0.0007 per cent of the total registered voter population of 18,741,159 are expected to participate in this exercise.
On Friday, the Chairperson of the Electoral commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa affirmed that the EC is ready to conduct transparent, credible and peaceful elections.
Towards this exercise, the EC official had urged those whose names are on the special voters’ roll to come out on the day to cast their ballot as they will not be allowed to vote in the main elections billed for December 7. He assured voters the country’s electoral management body has put in place the necessary measures and logistics to ensure the election is conducted in a free and fair manner, as earlier on re-echoed by outgoing President Nana Dankwa Akufo Addo.
On December 7, Ghanaians will vote in a presidential and parliamentary election to elect a president and 276 parliamentarians.
