The upcoming Kenyan general election will be a fierce battle, as the result of elections in this country will significantly impact prospects first reversing democratic erosion, the extent to which civil society and countervailing institutions can keep leaders accountable.
Kenya conducted its last election in 2017 which was flooded by a lot of inconsistencies and serious irregularities especially following a re-run wherein Uhuru Kenyatta emerged as winner beating his major contender, Raila Odiga. In December 2021, Rail a Odiga launched his 5th presidential candidacy with an endorsement from his former rival Uhuru Kenyatta. A move which further Isolates deputy President William Ruto who is running as the nominee for the United Democratic Alliance .
As part of his strategy Rail a Odiga decided to put up a coalition with female politician and onetime rival MARTHA KARUA who has been nicknamed the “Iron Lady”. If the pair wins the polls, Karua would become Kenya’s first female deputy president. Observers believe this year’s presidential contest will be a two horse race between Ruto and Odiga.A record of Forty-six presidential candidates are among over seven thousand(7000) who will compete in the August 9 general election.
