President William Ruto of Kenya on Tuesday assured kenyans that plans are in the making to safeguard a new partner for the rennovation of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport This comes following his cancellation on the expansion deal with the Adani group.
Following the cancellation of the airport expansion and energy agreement with Indian tycoon, Gautam Adani, Kenyan Leadership William Ruto on Tuesday December 3 assured Kenyans that plans are underway to secure a new partner for the the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) project.
The Adani partnership was terminated in November after the group’s chairman, faced bribery charges in the United States.
President Ruto expressed regret that some Kenyans celebrated the cancellation of the Adani deal instead of placing focus on the urgent need to rebuild the deteriorating airport.
« We do not have a spare country, we must be patriots and defend our country and we must work for Kenya, » he said.
He further affirmed his commitment to remain focused and fulfill his promises to Kenyans
The Adani Group was set to invest $1.85bn in Kenya’s main airport in exchange for a contract to run it for 30 years, as well as a $736m deal with the energy ministry to construct power lines.
However, the country’s Energy Minister, Opiyo Wandayi, in parliament said there was no bribery or corruption involved in the procurement of the power lines.
The controversial deal sparked a protest among airport workers in September, as they feared it would take away their jobs.
