According to the Russian ambassador to Mali and Niger, Igor Gromyko Bamako and Moscow are working on intensifying cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, energy, and infrastructure among others. He was speaking during an interview with Russian media on Sunday.
With flourishing relations on the horizon, Russia and Mali plan to expand economic cooperation in energy, agriculture and infrastructure, according to the Russian Ambassador to Mali and Niger Igor Gromyko during an interview with Russian media, TASS on Sunday.
The ambassador stated that during the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to Bamako in early December, both diplomats had discussed ways to bolster economic interaction between Russia and Mali, especially via cooperation in the energy, transportation, infrastructure, agriculture and mining sectors.
The agreements during that meeting are aimed at further development of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the two countries, » he added.
Nonetheless, the diplomat underlined that Russian state-owned nuclear energy company Rosatom is involved in cooperation agreements focusing on nuclear infrastructure and training. In May this year, the construction of a 200 MW solar power plant near Bamako began with the involvement of Novavind, a Russian company owned by Rosatom, the ambassador recalled.
The Russian ambassador noted that in the energy sector, Moscow and Bamako are discussing the construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant, and a solar power plant in the African country.
