Moroccan Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan has held talks with President Xi Jinping in China. The meeting in Casablanca on Thursday centered on expanding their existing cooperation in diverse sectors such as trade and infrastructure among others.
Towards strengthened cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping has made a short visit to Casablanca, Morocco, according to the state news agency.
During the visit on Thursday, Xi was welcomed by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, a visit that reflected the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between the Moroccan and Chinese peoples, the agency stressed.
This visit came after Xi left Brazil where he attended this year’s G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Uncovering key issues during the meeting, Chinese president reaffirmed the nation has stepped up investments in Morocco’s infrastructure and rail sector in recent years.
Given Morocco’s strategic geographic location, that is close to Europe, its free trade agreements with key EU and U.S. markets and its existing automotive industry, make it attractive to Chinese electric vehicle battery makers.
It should be recalled that in June, Chinese EV battery manufacturer Gotion High Tech selected Morocco to set up Africa’s first gigafactory for a total cost of $1.3 billion.
This latest development comes to amplify existing efforts pertaining to China-Africa relations.
