In a minor Cabinet reshuffle, President Paul KAGAME has replaced ministers of Foreign affairs and international cooperation as well as that of Finance. This amid major stakes like the pending Rwanda-UK Migrant plan, the economic growth of the country ahead of elections.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has made some minor changes to his Cabinet and government agencies. The reshuffle done on Wednesday, June 12, saw the appointing of Olivier Nduhungirehe as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, replacing Dr Vincent Biruta.
Nduhungirehe initially was Rwanda’s Ambassador to The Netherlands. Dr. Biruta has now been appointed the new Minister for Interior, replacing Alfred Gasana who was named Rwanda’s envoy in The Hague.
Nduhungirehe previously served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of the East African Community from September 2017 to April 2020. He had previously also been Rwanda’s ambassador to Belgium with accreditation to Luxembourg, the European Union from December 2015 to September 2017. His appointment comes amid the pending Rwanda-UK Migrant plan.
Other major changes saw Yusuf Murangwa appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, replacing Dr Uzziel Ndagijimana. This comes after the Rwanda was recently acknowledged on global rankings as most improved in terms of budget accountability, according to the latest international budget transparency assessment.
It should be noted that the new Minister of Finance and economic planning was until his appointment to the cabinet, working as the Director General of the National Institute of Statitistics of Rwanda (NISR).
Though other sectors have been touched, these changes surface as the nation’s GDP growth is expected to regain momentum in 2024–26, with a projected average growth of 7.2% despite external and domestic challenges.
