President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan following the landmark accord brokered to end tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, he is planning to visit the two african countries in the first two months of 2025.

Speaking in a youth gathering in the eastern province of Erzurum on Saturday, President Erdorgan noted that the breakthrough came after « a meeting that lasted seven hours. »
On wednesday in the Turkish capital Ankara, the two leaders issued a joint statement called the Ankara Decaration « reaffirmed their respect and commitment to one another’s sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity. »
Regarding Türkiye’s role in facilitating the declaration, Erdogan detailed that the relations Turkey has with both nations permitted the progress of the mediation efforts.
He added that his « special rapport » with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed allowed them to discuss the dispute, which escalated in January when Ethiopia sealed a deal with Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland to use the Red Sea port of Berbera.
« We made investments there. Along with those investments, we also took steps against terrorist organisations in Somalia, » he highhlighted.
It’s worthy of note that Ankara as well signed defence agreements with Somalia.
« When we are sincere, when our intentions are good, everything can happen. » he stated.
