The University of Buea is set to welcome 7,000 new students this academic year after the undergraduate admission list was released last weekend.
The list for undergraduate programmes in the Faculties of Arts, Education, Laws and Political Science, Science and Social and Management Sciences was released on Saturday, October 2 with notifications being sent to students by SMS or by email.
Potential students who still hope to study at the institution will have to re-apply and wait for the release of the second and probably the third lists.
On the other hand, the list of students admitted for the post graduate level is expected to be published by the end of this week by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Public Relations Office of the University of Buea said.
For the past four weeks, the University of Buea has been busy organizing entrance examinations into its various schools notably the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences as well as the Advanced School of Translators and Interpreters. Results for the various examinations are still being awaited as the university opens its doors this week for registration formalities for fresh as well as returning students.
Owing to the success rate at the GCE Advanced Level and Baccalaureat exams, the student population at the University of Buea as well as at other State Universities is set to increase this academic year, according to the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education. Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo has thus called on heads of these institutions to make good use of digital tools to accommodate this population.
