The secretary general of the United Nations, Antonio Gutteres has criticized the death of hostages in RAFAH calling for an end of the conflict and release of hostages. He made the remarks on his X account on Sunday.
Following the demise of six hostages, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Sunday for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and the release of those remaining in Hamas captivity.
The UN Chief wrote on his X account « Today’s tragic news is a devastating reminder of the need for the unconditional release of all hostages and an end to the nightmare of war in Gaza. »
On Sunday, the Israeli military released the names of six hostages whose bodies were found in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip which include Russian citizen Alexander Lobanov and US citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin
following the discovery, Hamas has held Israel responsible for the deaths of hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip, Izzat al-Risheq, a member of the Palestinian movement’s political bureau, underlined.
On October 7, 2023, Israel was hit by an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip, followed by an incursion. In response to Hamas attacks, Israel launched a military operation in Gaza, resulting in more than 40,000 casualties, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
It is worthy of note that since the war began, all efforts to broker a ceasefire have proven futile.
