The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS has resounded its commitment to strengthen good governance, accountability and regional integration within the Bloc and the sub region.
They made the remarks during the ongoing 36th session of the ECOWAS Administration and Finance Committee AFC in Abuja, Nigeria.
On the sidelines of the 36th meeting of the ECOWAS Administration and Finance Committee (AFC), the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS reiterated its commitment to strengthening governance, accountability and regional integration.
The session which convenes biannually commenced on December 3 and will run till December 9 at the bloc’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria comes amidst numerous challenges facing the bloc, coupled with the departure of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.
The crucial gathering is bringing together top officials frim across the region aims to discuss administration and financial matters relating to the the management of the ECOWAS commission, institutions and the Community at large.
During the opening statement, ECOWAS Vice President, Damtien Tchintchibidja emphasized the importance of cohesion and unity of action in the wake of challenges facing the institution. « Our strength lies in our cohesion and unity of action » age stated.
AFC provides a platform for in-depth technical analysis into how the community’s affairs are managed and recommendations will be presented to the ECOWAS council of ministers in a bid to improve the well-being of countries in the region.
Thus, the outcomes and recommendations will be crucial in shaping the bloc’s economic and organisational priorities.
It is worth mentioning that in 2025, ECOWAS will be commemorating 50 the anniversary and it will an opportunity for the bloc to look at its strengths and ameliorate its weaknesses.
