Namibia has recorded nationally, 2,210 malaria cases including nine deaths as of December 15 due to the rainy season. According to the Health Ministry recently, majority of the cases were recorded in the Northern parts of the country.
Namibia’s Ministry of Health and Social Services has warned of an increase in the number of malaria cases until April.
Currently, Namibia has recovered 2,210 malaria cases nationally including nine deaths as of 15 December as a result of the rainy season. The country’s media outlet, The Namibian disclosed on Tuesday December 24.
According to the Ministry of Health executive director Ben Nangombe in a statement, “The majority of the cases were reported from the Eenhana district (with 661 cases), accounting for 30%, followed by Okongo (with 336 cases), accounting for 15% of the total cases,”
“At least 16 malaria-endemic districts have surpassed the epidemic threshold and are
experiencing outbreaks,” Nangombe added.
The affected districts include Eenhana, Okongo, Outapi, Engela, Nkurenkuru,Oshikuku, Omuthiya, Oshakati, Onandjokwe, Tsumeb, Rundu, Okahao, Tsandi, Ncamagoro, Nyangana and Andara.
