As Cameroon and Egypt continue to enjoy the fruits of their decades-old friendship, the foreign ministers during a press conference in Cairo re-echoed the need to promote peace and stability in the region. During the meeting on Wednesday, both diplomats explored ways to further strengthen cooperation so as to enhance sustainable development .
Towards cementing the decades- long relations, Cameroon’s minister of Foreign Affairs, Lejeune Mbella Mbella and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty held a press conference on Wednesday in Cairo praising the historic relations between both countries.
Aside from handing over a message from Cameroon’s president Paul Biya to President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, he explained both diplomats had held the seventh session of the Egyptian-Cameroonian Committee, a meeting that convened for the first time in several years due to the Corona pandemic.
In that regard, it was agreed both leaders would hold joint committee meetings annually, with Egypt’s foreign minister expressing his aspiration to visit the capital Yaoundé next year to head the Egyptian delegation to the eighth session of the joint committee.
For his part, Cameroon’s Foreign Minister Lejeune M’Bella M’Bella underscored the depth of cooperation between both nations especially in terms of political will, adding that the convergence of views and positions of the two countries on international issues and those related to the threat to international peace and security. Minister Mbella Mbella also emphasized that both countries value peace.
Simultaneously, the Cameroonian Minister reviewed the investment opportunities available in the country highlighting Egyptian investments in Cameroon, especially in the fields of infrastructure, building construction and energy and the zest to further deepen economic cooperation.
