GHANA/ HISTORIC INAUGURATION TEN HEADS OF STATE TO ATTEND MAHAMA’S SWEARING-IN – TRANSITION SPOX

Ghana’s capital, Accra, is set to host a historic moment on January 7, 2025, as President-elect John Dramani Mahama takes the oath of office at Black Star Square, with ten heads of state and numerous dignitaries from across the globe expected to witness the grand ceremony. He will assume office as the latest president of the fourth Republic succeeding outgoing leader, Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

 

Ahead of the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square in Accra, leaders have begun answering present.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama Transition Team, confirmed on Friday that ten heads of state have confirmed to attend the high-profile event, underscoring Ghana’s standing in the global community. As it stands, the presidents of Nigeria ( current chair of the ECOWAS), Kenya, the Gambia, delegations from the United States , the European Union and others would be at the event. Over the weekend , a delegation extended an invitation to the minister of Foreign Affairs and international cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop in Bamako.

The ceremony will also host two vice presidents, a speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and representatives from international organizations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank.

“This event is a proud moment for Ghana, showcasing our unwavering commitment to democracy and peaceful transitions of power,” Kwakye Ofosu stated during a press briefing in Accra.

The ceremony promises to be a landmark event, reflecting Ghana’s status as a beacon of democracy in Africa. With dignitaries from across the continent and beyond, it will also be an opportunity to highlight Ghana’s dedication to orderly governance and international cooperation.
