The swearing-in ceremony took place at the iconic Black Star Square in Accra, attended by dignitaries, international diplomats, and an enthusiastic crowd of citizens.
President Mahama’s inauguration follows his decisive victory in the December 7, 2024, elections, where he secured an overwhelming mandate from the Ghanaian electorate. The event saw the attendance of 21 heads of state and representatives of global organizations, underscoring the international significance of the occasion. The leaders present were Nigeria’s Bola Ahmed TINUBU, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, Kenya’s William Samoei Ruto, South Africa’s president Cyril MATAMELA Ramaphosa, Nambia’s Nangolo Mbumba, Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso, Liberia’s Nyuma Boakai, among others.
Accompanying President Mahama on this historic journey is Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who made history as Ghana’s first female Vice President. Her appointment represents a milestone in gender representation and leadership in the country.
President Mahama also made history by becoming the first non-consecutive president of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, a feat achieved through a landslide victory. His closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, garnered 41.61% of the vote, signaling the strong confidence Ghanaians placed in Mahama’s leadership.
Mahama previously served as President from 2012 to 2017, following the untimely death of his predecessor, John Evans Atta Mills. With a wealth of political experience, his return to the presidency signals renewed hope and optimism among Ghanaians.
As he embarks on his second term, President Mahama has outlined a bold agenda focusing on tackling youth unemployment, revitalizing the economy, improving healthcare, and expanding infrastructure. Central to his vision is fostering inclusivity and creating an environment where every Ghanaian can thrive.
This significant moment not only marks the beginning of Mahama’s new administration but also highlights Ghana’s enduring democratic traditions and commitment to progress.
