JEJU FORUM: MACKY SALL’S VOICE REIGNS SUPREME IN SOUTH KOREA

The man who is fast becoming the linchpin of African politics on the global stage has made a powerful impression in the Republic of Korea. Speaking at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, former Senegalese President Macky Sall stole the spotlight from other world figures, solidifying his standing as the ideal successor to António Guterres at the helm of the United Nations.
In the corridors of global power, there is a unanimous consensus: if the selection process for the next UN Secretary-General could be fast-tracked, Macky Sall would have already clinched the position. Even within the most exclusive diplomatic circles, the former Chairperson of the African Union embodies the aura of an undisputed victory.
During the high-level panel entitled « Reinventing Multilateralism » which brought together a crowded field of potential candidates to succeed António Guterres alongside prominent figures like Michelle Bachelet it was Macky Sall’s voice alone that reigned supreme. His intervention was, by far, the most closely listened to.

The Visionary Roadmap of a Master of Global Issues

As an undisputed master of economic, political, and social dynamics, Macky Sall leveraged this platform on Thursday, June 25, to outline what already looks like his future governance roadmap on the international stage. In the face of geopolitical, security, and climate crises fracturing the globe, the former Head of State reaffirmed the absolute urgency of restoring trust in the UN and the multilateral system.
« It is essential to restore confidence in multilateralism and in the UN, » he stated emphatically, reminding the audience that the organization remains the sole indispensable framework for dialogue and collective solutions.
Displaying the stature of a visionary leader, he emphasized the crucial role of the UN Secretary-General, whom he describes as a « bridge-builder » and a « catalyst for cooperation » amid current international tensions. Macky Sall also advocated for resilience to become a guiding principle of the next global agenda, ensuring international institutions are better equipped to withstand future economic and health shocks.

Africa at the Pinnacle of Global Diplomacy

Since stepping down from office in April 2024, the Senegalese leader has been participating in a succession of strategic global summits. However, his performance in Jeju marks a major turning point. Invited by the South Korean authorities, Macky Sall proved that he is the providential leader capable of polishing and elevating Africa’s image worldwide.
After warmly thanking his hosts, the former President left South Korea leaving behind a profound certainty: through his voice, Africa is no longer just a bystander in global governance; it is now a legitimate contender to lead it.
