Egypt’s foreign minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov held an important telephone conversation on Sunday where they discussed bringing peace to Gaza and Syria. During the talks boosting their relations was part of the discussion.
The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and the Russian Federation: Badr Abdelatty and Sergey Lavrov respectively discussed over phone on Sunday the latest developments in Gaza and Syria, as well as bilateral relations, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a recent statement.
The Egyptian diplomat highlighted Cairo’s intensive efforts to achieve an « immediate and lasting ceasefire, enabling the delivery of humanitarian aid to the strip. »
Given that Egypt, alongside Qatar and the US, are part of mediation efforts aimed to end Israel’s war in Gaza that continues since the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks, the nation has been engaging with those of the international community to garner support for the war to come to an end.
As for the situation in Syria, where a new administration has taken charge after the fall of the Bashar Al Assad’s regime, the two ministers agreed on « the importance of supporting the Syrian state, respecting its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. »
They also emphasized « enhancing coordination among key stakeholders to support Syria during the transitional phase in a manner that prioritizes the interests of all segments and components of the Syrian people. »
It is in that regard the two diplomats underlined the need to collaborate to bring peace to the heated region.
