Kenya is hoping to enhance trade and tourism with Moscow. According Nairobi’s ambassador to Moscow on Thursday, Kenya is hoping to establish direct air travel with Russia.
Kenya is seeking to bolster trade relations with Russia as the East African country hopes to establish direct air travel with Moscow in a bid to increase tourism.
Nairobi’s envoy to Moscow Peter Mutuku Mathuki in an interview on Thursday, noted that “Tourism is one of the pillars of our policy and an important sector of the economy,”
He added that as for direct flights, they are counting on Moscow’s launch, which requires negotiations between the two countries to see what the international requirements are for the implementation of the idea.“But it is in our interests to make tourism in Kenya more attractive.” Mathuki stated.
He revealved that over 6,500 Russian tourists visited Kenya in 2022-23, while over 7,000 were recorded in 2024 alone.
With trade, the Russian shipping company FESCO last month launched a container route between Novorossiysk and Mombasa, Kenya’s largest port, with a consignment of Kenyan tea.
According to the company, Moscow aims to use the route for exporting construction materials, fertilizers, metals, plastics, wood and paper products, while importing tea, coffee, nuts and other agricultural commodities.
