In a collective win, the Tariq ibn Ziyad Brigade and part of the Libyan national Army (LNA), in collaboration with international organizations has thwarted a shipment transporting 200 kilograms of cocaine. The recent move comes to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking.
Libya is en route to becoming a country free from drug trafficking and cocaine consumption. In a historic move, the Tariq ibn Ziyad Brigade in Libya’s second – most populous city, Benghazi has recently intercepted a significant cocaine shipment as part of their relentless effort to end drug trafficking and international corruption.
The recent move on Friday accentuates the effectiveness and commitment of the Libyan Arab Armed forces and the zest of the Benghazi government in protecting its people, borders and the Mediterranean region.
The foiled operation involved a shipment transporting 200 kilograms of illicit substance entering from Ecuador and headed for Spain. For years Libyan authorities have grappled with ending the cycle of becoming a route for international drug trafficking networks which threaten to wreak havoc not only in Libya but the entire region.
The lauded action between the Libyan forces and international organizations further underscored the constant efforts and capability of the Benghazi battalion, underlining the importance of international cooperation in combatting organised crime. However, this collaboration has been effective in maintaining regional security, reinforcing maritime routes and the shared interests of countries in the Mediterranean.
