Senegalese have been called to cast their ballot to choose representatives in the nation’s national Assembly. The vote on November 17 took place in a rather tense atmosphere with numerous stakes involved.
Senegal’s over 7.3 million voters headed to the polls on Sunday to vote in legislative elections in a rather tense atmosphere against a backdrop of enormous expectations as the nation’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye hopes will give his party a clear majority and the means to implement an ambitious agenda for reforms.
Registered voters will have the chance to vote for candidates for the 165-seat assembly, choosing between 41 registered parties or other entities and the task will not be an easy one for the ruling Pastef Party with the presence of Takku Wallu coalition headed by the nation’s former President Macky Sall.
This coalition brings together parties of liberal ideology dubbed the Alliance of the Republic which portrays a recovery plan in seven key points with top priority: restoration for the regular functioning of state institutions, and holding meetings on reconciliation and stability.
For this legislative election, Senegalese have to choose among the over 41 parties on the list including the Mayor of Dakar, Barthélemy Dias and former Prime Minister, Amadou Ba , whom have agreed to support the strongest opposition in each locality despite their differences.
