TOWARDS AFRICAN LEADERSHIP? MACKY SALL TO ADDRESS THE UN THIS WEDNESDAY

The United Nations headquarters in New York is currently buzzing with the energy of succession. As António Guterres prepares to conclude his second term, the race for the position of UN Secretary-General is entering its decisive phase. While several candidates « set the stage » during the first auditions this Tuesday, all eyes are now fixed on tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22.

The Grand Oral: The Moment of Truth

Following the initial presentations by other contenders, it is now Macky Sall’s turn to face the demanding public audition process. For three hours, the former President of the Republic of Senegal and former Chairperson of the African Union will respond to questions from the 193 Member States and civil society stakeholders.

A Frontrunner Defying the Odds

Macky Sall is not merely another candidate; he is the leader of the race. With 38.6% of voting intentions, he holds a significant lead over his competitors:

  • Michelle Bachelet (Chile): 24.2%
  • Rafael Grossi (Argentina): 21.7%
  • Rebecca Gypsum: 15.5%

The Voice of Global Reform

Driven by continental momentum, Macky Sall embodies the hope of an Africa ready to assume a leading role in global governance. His advocacy is clear: reforming an institution seen by many as exhausted to better address contemporary crises.

Leveraging his experience as a Head of State and a continental mediator, he stands out as the candidate of stability and renewal. Tomorrow’s appearance before the General Assembly will be his opportunity to transform his frontrunner status into a historic victory for African diplomacy.
